Joseph Hogg
« on: Tuesday 14 February 17 10:40 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Joseph was b. c1786 Horncastle, Lincolnshire.

Joined the army 1804 aged about 19y., posted to France at some point, in for about 14y, all traceable.

He married a Marie Miroux possibly between 1818 - 1823 at Valenciennes.

Any info gratefully received, especially on Marie's side.

Many thanks
Geoff

I can't see any sign of the marriage in the "tables decennales"  for Valenciennes and Aulnoy-lez-Valenciennes between 1802 and 1832, but I might not have thought of all the possible variant spellings.  Have you any additional clues?

Neither could I find the marriage indexed on the new filae.com (pay) site which is the nearest thing to a general post-Revolution BMD index in France though not all departments are on there.

Thanks, Jayaygee..

I'm afraid the info I have is vague and in those early years most info has been 'passed on'... Dau., Frances Hogg was b. c1823 (1841 census), but family say there was a child born before then and died, no other info on that.

Joseph was discharged from the army c1818 [possibly November]. There is a little more info in his service history that mentions some sort of assistance back to Horncastle for him, a wife and child, unfortunately no date is seen. There was another note in 1820 that seems to have been added/stuck on, where his pension has reduced from 6 pennies a day to 5.

Whilst there are bits and pieces there's nothing too helpful.

Geoff

EDIT: I should add that Marie/Mary was b. c1801 Valenciennes.

Hello,
I found several "Miroux" born in Valenciennes between 1802 and 1812 but none were named Marie.
The years before 1802 are not on line , yet at least. Marie could be a sister of one of them (but there are different Miroux families )

I found Jerome MIROUX and family in the AN 9 Census, no Marie here at this date. I will look further.

There are very few Miroux in Valenciennes apparently in those days BUT there are more MIROUX in PROUVY where Jerome was born (said in Célestin's birth act).
I had a look at PROUVY's births tables and found 4 families named MIROUX (fathers: Anselme,Henri, Alexandre, and Pierre Joseph). Pierre Joseph gave birth to a girl named Marie Catherine born on the the 1st of Messidor an X (an 10) , that is 20th of June 1802. I think she is very likely to be  the Marie MIROUX you are looking for. But you can't be certain until you find the Hogg /Miroux marriage.

Pierre Joseph MIROUX married Cyrille Joseph GRUEZ on the 28th of january 1794 in PROUVY. He was forty (or so it is said), his parents were Pierre Joseph MIROUX (deceased) and Marie Margueritte MALLET, he was born and living in PROUVY, she was thirty, her parents were Jean François GRUEZ and Marie Claire DUMONS, she was also born and living in PROUVY.
Present : Alexandre Miroux brother of the groom, François Joseph Gruez , brother of the bride, Jean Baptiste Dupont and Jean Baptiste Prally, cousins of the groom.

PROUVY is very near Valenciennes
