Hi Bev, no problem jumping in.
What name were you looking for? Someone may be able to identify the burial place from that.

Thank you!

His name is Robert Matthews and the details I found on Durham records online was as follows:
Burials, Gateshead District - Record Number: 1559636.2
Location: Dunston
Church: Christ Church
Denomination: Anglican
1 Aug 1894 Robert Matthews, of Dunston, age: 40

Just wondering if the burials were onsite as having looked on google maps there doesn't seem to be any graves left. I've read that the church was demolished so wasn't expecting to be able to visit but know sometimes church yards are kept even when the building is removed. A lot of other ancestors I've found in the area have been in larger cemeteries so wondered if Christ Church used a larger local cemetery rather than an onsite graveyard.

Thanks again.

Bev

The answer seems to be yes, it did have its own churchyard and there is a photo here:

Durham Records Office page for this parish
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01kgd/  seems to confirm the register was actual burials, rather than funerals, and the registers go up to 1962.

The new church is St Nicholas with Christ Church and there are contact details here
https://www.achurchnearyou.com/dunston-st-nicholas/ including a facility to send an email. Someone there may be able to give you further details of when it closed and what happened to the gravestones etc.
