SOLVED THANK YOU Caheragh vs Castleisland
« on: Wednesday 15 February 17 13:12 GMT (UK) »
Good day - once again I am returning to drink at the font of knowledge!

I am driving myself crazy... Daniel Murphy's death cert lists him as being from Castleisland, Kerry.  His parents Timothy Murphy and Ellen Hickey had a son (Timothy jnr) in 1864 and the place on the baptismal doc is shown as Caharagh.

Timothy Snr was a farmer.  Up until recently, I thought he was the Timothy Murphy living in the town of Castleisland, but I'm inclined to think the family should be more rural.  Therefore, I may have the incorrect Timothy Murphy of Castleisland.

However, after trying to research Caharagh I am more confused than ever.

1) Is Caharagh the same as Caher?
2) Is Caharagh in Kerry or Cork?

I have located a Griffith's valuation for a Timothy Murphy in Caher Kerry but the township is listed as Ballycarbery East... this seems a long way from Castleisland?

Could anyone assist and help me out of this fog of data plse?  THANKS!

Regards, Carol

Thanks MyLuck!  Shortly after I posted I stumbled across a site that listed Caheragh (with several variations) but it did specify it was one mile South of the town of Castleisland which makes sense.

Now I have to figure  out if they moved into the town latterly!

Have a look at Caheragh townland just south of Castleisland.
