Hugh MOONEY, Born 1835/1836, Ireland
« on: Thursday 16 February 17 21:24 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Between 1851-1861 Hugh MOONEY married Sarah F. PATRICK (born 1835/1836) and for the 1861 and 1881 Scotland Census they and their children were livng in Kilmarnock where he was employed as a Slater.  In 1871 they had a spell in Renfrewshire where he worked as a Labourer.

I wonder if someone could please confirm the marriage date and any information about the couple after 1881, date of death, for instance.   By the way his father and mother were Archibald and Margaret MOONEY and they, too, were born in Ireland about 1809.

Thank you for your help.

Do birth certificates for any of the children born in Scotland not list date and place of parents' marriage? Or were all children born in Ireland? (in which case suggest following them in each possible census record to see if a more exact place of birth than 'Ireland' listed)

Could Sarah's name be Sarah Fitzpatrick rather than Sarah F. Patrick?

Hi there

Some the children's birth registrations seem to have Sarah's surname name as Fleming, others as Fitzpatrick. See www.rootschat.com/links/01ji4/

I can't easily see a marriage for them after 1855. They may have married before this year and the start of official registration. You can check the birth cert for one of the children born at the start of the 1860s as the parents' marriage details began to be recorded on the birth registrations.

There are two separate families in 1871. That of a Hugh Mooney (slater) and wife Sarah Fleming based in Kilmarnock and also another family, a Hugh Money (labourer) and wife Sarah Fitzpatrick, based in Eastwood.

Which is the correct one?

Good Morning,

Thank you both for your responses..........they have certainly helped in highlighting the "rogue" 1871 Scotland Census reference, which I can now discard.

Sadly, the original questions I raised, dates of marriage/death etc., remain unresolved.   A pity, but at least knowing his wife's maiden name was "FLEMING" will help my research enormously.

Thank you once again.

Could it be that Sarah's maiden surnname was Flanigan ?

Should be fairly easy to check date and place of parents' marriage by looking at birth certificate as suggested earlier-

ev,

Thank you.

Seems you have found the answers to two questions.......now to understand when Hugh MOONEY died and I can then create a coherent narrative of his life 8)   Incidentally, do you have any citations for the details?

For now,
