Brick Wall -David Martin born c 1810 married Sarah Preston (nee Taylor)

After researching this man for just over 10 years I am no further forward and have hit the proverbial brick wall.

David Martin married my GG Grandmother Sarah Preston (nee Taylor) in 1846 in Birmingham. She was a widow with 3 children - Mary, John and Sarah.

David and Sarah had 2 children of their own - Phoebe and David.

Davids wife Sarah passed away in 1849.

The 1851 census shows the family - David Martin living in Summer Lane with children - Mary,  John, Sarah, Phoebe and David (all listed under the name of Martin. Davids place of birth is listed as Litchfield - which I initially thought was an error and presumed Lichfield, Staffs. I now understand there was a Litchfield in Hampshire, plus  USA and Australia

I have been unable to find a birth for David Martin born c 1810 Litchfield/Lichfield, cannot find him on the 1841 census, nor anything after 1851 - no death or other census.

Neither can I find any information on his son David Martin born 1849 Birmingham after the 1851 census.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

David jnr is possibly the 1853 death in Birmingham on freebmd - GRO search shows he was aged 5

Have you found Phoebe after 1851?

If she married - is David shown as deceased on her marriage cert

Yes I have the marriage certificate which shows occupation of father of David as Bricklayer.

I must have missed the details on possible death for David junior so thank you for that info.

I will send for death certificate.

Phoebe Martin married Joshua Henderson Dec 1869 Birmingham - her father is not shown as deceased (but from previous experience that's not always the case even if they are deceased).
Her fathers occupation is shown as "Stamp Maker".

The 1851 has another David Martin in Birmingham - aged 3.  It could be his death so don't order the cert until I've checked the 1861 for the family

Found the other family under Marten in 1861 and their David is still with them so looks as though that death is your David

Thank you for your help. I have intermittently tried to find both Davids over the years and more recently started my search again,but sometimes you just miss the obvious when trying too hard and not see what's under your nose.
