The only other marriage that seems definite is that of George William Martin & Mary Sarah Bradney on 11 Dec 1853 - father's details match & witnesses are David & Mary Martin, although both made their mark this time.  I suspect that sometimes the minister just assumed they couldn't write and so told them to make their mark, and so that's what they did!

How sad for David Martin and the children when his wife was deported.

I will have more time over this weekend so will follow up the information you have provided.

I have sent for a death certificate for David Martin who died 1853 aged 5 in Birmingham.

Following on from my original post I think I have found another marriage for David Martin.

Marriage listed on Ancestry.

1844 - December 26th - Hannah Jenkins at St Bartholomew Church, Birmingham.

David is described as Widower - occupation Stamper, Hannah - Widow - no fathers for bride and groom are listed.

David Martin signs his name which I think is identical to previous images posted on Reply 23 by Jomot.

This would mean he married Hannah just after his wife Harriet was sent to Van Diemans Land in 1844 and before he married my GG Grandmother in 1846.

Unfortunately I cannot upload the image I had saved.
