Ok, I spoke too soon;

Something wrong here;

me:   Thos Motley
Event Type:   Baptism
Baptism Date:   3 Oct 1800
Baptism Place:   Peterborough, St John, Northamptonshire, England
Parish as it Appears:   Peterborough, St John
Register Type:   Parish Registers
Father:   John Thos Motley
Mother:   Mary Motley

Looked at image definitely Mary as Mother, no other details as to Fathers Occp etc

There is a Burial for a RICHARD Motley 20 July 1800. Son of John/Anne

There is also;
Name:   Elizth Motley
Event Type:   Baptism
Baptism Date:   17 Feb 1789
Baptism Place:   Peterborough, St John, Northamptonshire, England
Parish as it Appears:   PETERBOROUGH ST. JOHN
Register Type:   Parish Registers
Father:   John Thomas Motley
Mother:   Ann Motley

So much earlier than the 1796 Marriage.

So more than 1 couple around named John/Ann?

Reading your reply to Sandy I am confused.

He gave you the Baptisms to John Thos/Ann

There was also this marriage on the Indexes.
Peterborough St. John
09 Dec 1764
John MOTLEE otp & Ann WHILBORE otp

I did in-correctly but a baptism for Thos as John Thos and Ann instead of Mary.

As David says all viewable on Anc*******

the information here also. Duties paid.

This took place before the marriage noted in 1796.

Thanks so very much everyone!!

I will try to access all those images on An******

Sandy- I will look at the burial in 1802. Can I access the will you mentioned? It might help hopefully.

A marriage in 1762 seems far too early for births in 1790s and 1800s....

Any other sources anyone can suggest??

Well I have checked out all those images.....and I'm no closer....

There is a baptism to John and Ann Motley of a William in 1802- which would fit the age of my William in London.

But I cant find any evidence that proves it to be the same man/family.....none of the baptism or burials state the fathers occupation or anything that might help confirm it is the family of Breeches makers.

The marriage appears to be later in 1796 than John and Ann are listed together on the duties paid register. So now unsure if they are even related to the same couple....

Possibly the will Sandy found might help? But I can't find that on An****** The burial does not tell me how old John Motley who died in 1802 was, so not even sure if it is John Thomas Mottlee Snr.

I thought perhaps to try tracing Ann Coles instead- surmising the Edward Cole witness to her marriage was her father, but again no luck as there seems to be several Ann Coles born around the mid 1770's...

Any ideas on where to go next please anyone????!!!!!

Kylie, the Northamptonshire Wills are indexed on FindMyPast, and can, I'm afraid, only be accessed at the Northants Record Office.

You'd need someone to go and check it out for you (paid or unpaid), or contact the Record Office and pay them to check it out for you.
