I was wondering the same Frank. I did see a couple with a shirt and tie, but the tunic looked different.  :)  This one seems to have the interfacing showing, or maybe it is a trick of the light.

I am fairly certain, without being able to check at the moment, that the coloured "forage" or side cap was not issued during the war, only the khaki version, as seen in Dad's Army.

Combine this with the observations on the tunic from Ruskie and Frank and I think this is a post-war photo and certainly not Home Guard. Given the age of the wearer, could he have been doing National Service or have been in the Territorials ?

What colour is the cap in the photo?

(Tonally I wpuld have suggested dark blue, bit that is just a guess)  ;)
