Asking for a friend.
« on: Friday 17 February 17 15:44 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone please tell me what Regimental uniform these men are wearing.  Also the men at the front are not wearing shiny buttons or even a hat, why would that be.  This is dated about 1912.  Thank you in advance.

These are almost all Great War Royal Artillerymen – badge first on the left as we look at them.  One Army Service Corps or Royal Engineer by the look of it – second row number three.  The one next to him, number four, not sure and the one behind him also not sure.  All seem to have the crossed flags of a signaller with the corporal in the middle having them above his stripes so the whole is indicative of a course of instruction for signallers.  The dark buttons could be Canadians, two of the tunics look like their 7 button upstanding collar type.  Shoulder titles visible but not readable. Wild guess says Royal Garrison Artillery for the majority (trousers rather than puttees).

Hi, looking at the photograph it looks like some have Artillery cap badges on, could be field Artillery, Garrison Artillery etc, there also looks to be at least one Royal Engineers cap badge, I notice that several men have "Signaller" patches on there arms.

Frank.

They're not all wearing the same cap badge although most of them are.
As you can see they are Signallers.
Could be most of them are RA & 1 man RE.
Frank got there first.

Any thoughts on the corporal's cap badge and the one behind him - and the "possible Canadians"?

Lancashire Hussars / Yeomanry  :-\

The one behind? not a clue to be honest, it could I suppose be Labour Corps.
