Thomas & Mary Davis of Bradford
« on: Friday 17 February 17 23:32 GMT (UK) »
My 3 x great grandparents. They appear in the 1841 census at Green Aire Place, Bradford, and by 1851 they were at Fitzgerald Street in Horton. The cencii note that they were both born in Bradford. Looking through the registers for the parish church, I'm fairly confident that I found baptism records for most of their children, and possibly for their marriage (Davison / Pachett) but I'm stumped as to where to look next. Anyone any ideas?

Thanks,

Nicholas

Where did you get Mary's maiden name as Pachett from?

I've found that the Davis surname is spelt in many and various ways - even 3 different spellings on the same marriage certificate for one of Thomas and Mary's children - Davys, Davies, Davis. The only Thomas and Mary to be married at Bradford with anything like the Davis surname, were a Thomas Davison and Mary Patchett in 1820.

Yes - Davis & Davies are often found but I've not seen Davys.

I am dubious the mis-spelling would extend to it being Davison so doubt the Davison/Patchett marriage is the right one

Daughter Jane is 20 in 1841 but ages from 16yrs were rounded down to the nearest 5yrs so she could have been older.  Do you have her on a later census to confirm her birthyear?  If she was born before 1820 you could rule out the Davison marriage

The Davison / Patchett marriage record records Thomas' occupation as Machine Maker, which is correct. There is a baptism record for a daughter of Thomas and Mary Davis, Mary Ann, on 4th October 1821. This agrees with Ann's marriage record and with subsequent cencii in 1851,61 and 71. At her marriage to William Nobbs in 1841 she is given the name Mary Ann aged 21. Her brother Thomas' baptism has the spelling Davys in 1827.

Just noticed you mentioned Jane - I haven't found a Jane in the 1841 census, just an Ann.
