Will Sergeant - Vocal Comedian/Music Hall Manager - 1911 Census & Death

On the passenger list was William Jnr with William Snr and Alice when they travelled to New York? 

I've tried to find more information on Chummie la Mara (eg her birth name),as I can't find any records for her stage name. (Even though there are loads of information about her burlesque career) I'm still wondering whether Chummie is Alice

Have found William's admission to Boundary Lane school Southwark in 1900 - he appears to leave in 1903.  Sadly the school admissions register does not list parents, but the address is 12 The Albany - as in 1901. Fred Carruth goes to the same school - the entry shows his mother is Sarah Carruth (ie Selina Sarah, Alice's sister)

Oh that's interesting.  I didn't know they listed school admissions.  I bet Fred was like a brother to William.

William Sergeant Jnr wasn't listed as with his parents when they travelled to New York.   You could be right about him thinking of Fred as a brother as he was living with him in the following census

I've just seen the death for William, thank you so much.  I don't know how you found this, it's amazing that you have.

Do you think this means that Alice was Chummie?  (Her stage name).
 I don't think he would have been married to 2 women at the same time who were both burlesque actresses, I suppose this confirms it.

They must have returned to England sometime, isn't Yarmouth in Norfolk?

Do you think there would have been a marriage record for William and Alice?
as she was his second wife.

I do think it confirms that Alice  was Chummie although it does look very likely that he actually married her, which could be why their son had his mother's surname as part of his name.

Chummie is listed on  a previous link I posted as dying in 1945 but I can't see a death for her in the UK at the moment and goodness knows which name she might have been recorded as!!

It would be great to find a marriage, I wonder who the witnesses were. 

Maybe Chummie went back to her maiden name near the end of her life, but you'd have thought she'd have kept Sergeant.  Maybe she didn't want anyone to know and died as Chummie la Mara, interesting lady.
