Thank you for the image.  It looks like Royal Road, Kennington Park (he once did live in the Kennington Road area of London),
I don't know who the sister in law or sister is, unless it's Alice's sister?  I suppose I could do with finding out who Alice is.
I wonder if he went to New York to continue his musical occupation or maybe his wife was an artist too, she was quite a bit younger than him.

Thank you :)
I've no idea who Minnie Chester or Emily Gower are (possibly Alice's relations?)
Could people divorce around 1900?  I know William had been separated from his first wife Emma for a few years and she even went back to her maiden name of Turner.  Alice has just come out of the woodwork ;D maybe he met her at the music halls.

This Paper seems to mention him and Chummie a lot up to 1910

Hi
Oh wow this is amazing information, I feel really happy reading this, thank you so much.

I was wondering do you think that Alice could be 'Chummie la Mara' the burlesque actress?  She was around a similar age and William seemed to be wherever she was, maybe Alice was her real name and Chummie her stage name.

And a William Sargeant age 8, who could this be?  Is it William's son (As he didn't have any children with Emma) and Alice's son?  ::)

I've just seen your post about the paper, I'll take a look now, thank you

That's really interesting to read and lovely to see a photo of Chummie.  t looks like this was a few days after William and 'Alice's' arrival in New York.
Do you think Alice could be Chummie?

[14th Street, New York City, week beginning Monday, 22 July 1907]
'Chummie LaMara came over from London for her first American appearance Without a marked English accent.

I wonder what Alice's maiden name was too?

Thank you everyone for helping me, I've been at a dead end for so long and would still be there now if it wasn't for such kind people, much appreciated.

The late censuses, including the 1901 you have been given upthread by Kay99, appear to show a relationship between the young William Sergeant and a Carruth family in Southampton, in particular Selina Carruth and also Fred (Cyril) Carruth born abt 1891 possibly in the Leytonstone area of Essex.

It may be worth exploring how Selina and Fred were connected to William.
