Ballybricken marriage SULLIVAN/CARTY (CARTHY)
« on: Saturday 18 February 17 15:19 GMT (UK) »
After 16 years have just found my first Irish record that gives me a clue to my great grandparents John SULLIVAN and Mary CARTY (sometimes CARTHY or McCARTY)

They settled in Liverpool about 1860 but daughter Margaret was born Waterford c1859 and this is the record I've just found, her baptism at Holy Trinity Without.  Would really appreciate any help to find the marriage of John and Mary...father of John might be Michael.

thank you
Sue

How exciting for you after so long.
What year did you find the baptism?
If her mother was from the same parish the marriage should have taken place in that parish, if not it may be in one of the surrounding parishes if it survives, or there may be other children to find to narrow down a year.

Sinann, thank you so much for that link....I found the marriage of John SULLIVAN to Mary CARTHY in November 1857 ...address given as Barrack St which is the same address on daughter Margaret's baptism which was 1 August 1858.  I'm so excited as I had almost given up hope of finding John and Mary born somewhere in Waterford!   I'm usually very cautious when I haven't got 100% proof but I just feel these are my elusive great grandparents.   I'm doing a jig around the kitchen.

best wishes Sue

Thank you Jim...I did find the baptism of Margaret and the marriage of John and Mary which I'm so chuffed about but I will have a look at the baptism you found for Ellen as I haven't been able to find her baptism.  What is confusing is her birth is registered in Liverpool and on the 1861 census they say she is 6 months old born in Liverpool....haven't found a Liverpool baptism.

There may have been two Ellens born, one in Waterford and the other in Liverpool.
Name reused if first Ellen did not survive.
Sometimes the info on census is incorrect.

Thank you for mentioning that.... we  have come across a later child having the same name as a sibling who died in infancy but this Ellen baptised iin Ballybricken was born in the same quarter as the Ellen registered in Liverpool with mmn McCARTY.
