Another complete long shot: Louis David Labiche, born Glasgow 1919
« on: Sunday 19 February 17 12:35 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if anyone knows anything of this gentleman, a very distant cousin. His father was Gustave Labiche (b. circa 1886), a hotel waiter and his mother was Elizabeth Swanson, a ladies' companion. When they married in 1914 their address was given as 235 Berkeley Street, Glasgow.

Did they stay in Glasgow or perhaps return to France after WW1?

No death listed on SP since 1919 with the surname Labiche or anything close enough to be a simple spelling error.

His parents are on the Electoral Roll for  Kelvingrove in 1920 but I don't seem to be able to find them on later ones

David Swanson was the tenant of that address in 1915

SWANSON
DAVID

Was this Elizabeth's father?

Have you checked for his death to see who registered it?

Yes, David was her father, and his death from a cerebral haemorrhage in July 1915 was registered by Elizabeth Labiche.

Now there's a question....

Her mother was one Cathie MacDonald (b.1858), and the marriage was in 1884. At the time of Elizabeth's marriage to Gustave Labiche in 1914, she's listed as "deceased", but I suspect this was an "alternative fact", as David had divorced her in 1893. She would only be 56 years old, although there might be a hint of syphilis around, which might have put her into an early grave. The name, though, is so common it is virtually impossible to verify her death.

There is a death on "SP" in 1914 for a Catherine MacKenzie Macdonald aged 55 in Hutchesontown that might fit, as her mother's surname was MacKenzie.

Nothing showing in Scottish records after 1916 until 1970 when the surname reappears in a marriage

This looks a good fit as her age on death is consistent with year of birth & with the names given, I would say this has got to be her or a very big coincidence?
