I saw that Sancti but obviously djct has seen it as (s)he previously stated about the divorce...

Maybe a 'look-up' request from someone visiting the archives?

Ohh...I didn't take notice of his dates tbh as I've been trying to find Louis David  ::)

I can't find him on any of the main sites so far, he's a complete mystery  ???

Dear All

The divorce details are appended to the marriage record on SP, which is where I found them. I have a reader's ticket for the National Records of Scotland.

Trouble is, unless I can find Gustave, Elizabeth and young Louis in Scotland (or even England) after the 1920 Electoral Roll, I've no idea where they went and when....

The will doesn't help. After the death of his second wife and the marriage of his daughter he put his money into joint names with Mme Labiche and appointed a local merchant named William Shannon as executor.

He has a connection to Leyburn, North Yorkshire

It is indeed their child, born before marriage and not registered in Scotland.

This reveals that the father was Gustave Raoul Labiche, and he had joined up in the French forces - 26th Battery Field Artillery.

Still no idea where he went after the Great War.

UPDATE: New information emerges from the divorce papers.

Sadly, but as expected, Elizabeth's mother fell victim to intemperance, which cost the family jobs and homes. Even sadder, she turned to prostitution and had several arrestrs in Glasgow before moving to Edinburgh. It therefore seems likely that she infected her husband who died of syphilis.

Moving on to Elizabeth Swanson/Labiche, it now emerges that she had a brother Ronald McDonald Swanson (1886-1933), and a sister Christina who lived to the age of 97, dying in Martha Street, Glasgow, in 1986. Still a long shot, but it's a new lead...
