So some progress has been made on this. I am close to ruling out the Samuel baptised in Great Gidding in 1757.

There is a will from a Rose Knighton dated 1802 in Offord D'Arcy. Rose was the name of Samuel's mother in the baptism record.

In 1818 there is a burial for a Samuel Knighton, age 59 in St. Neots (close to Offord D'Arcy). Using his age we get an estimated birth year of 1759, which is close to the 1757 baptism.

There is a marriage for a Samuel Knighton to a Dinah Noble in 1788 in Eaton Socon, Bedfordshire, which is right next to St. Neots.

Samuel and Dinah had the following children in Offord D'Arcy; Matthew, Robert, Elizabeth, John x2, Samuel, Esther and James.

What is significant about this is that the Samuel baptised in 1757 also had a brother called Matthew!

I am almost convinced now that this Samuel is not the same as my own.

Obviously the next step is to order the will for Rose Knighton and see what it says, to possibly confirm what I've found.
