Thanks again Sandy. I've actually had some success after digging out an old file from way back. Someone carried out abbreviated transcriptions of several wills in 2005 and I kept a hard copy of the email he kindly sent to me. I'd completely overlooked that.
It is one of those families where every generation seemed to call the oldest son Richard and every Richard married a woman named after his mother, in this case Elizabeth!. Not only that but the Richards all seemed to have died fairly young but the Elizabeths lived on for 20-30 years longer, which meant that there were multiple Elizabeths around at the same time. It don't half make it tricky for us poor genealogists!
The Harrold family established major branches in Welford, Northants and Olney, Bucks at the same time, both going well back into the 18th century but confusingly they were often born in one location and then at some stage moved to the other. But the Olney branch turned out to be the more adventurous leading to enterprise overseas and at times, substantial wealth. A very interesting lot and far more interesting than my own family.
In answer to Warncoort I also visit forums run by British Genealogy and Genealogy Specialists (also known as Top Dog)
