Marriage Benjamin Welton and Ann Vaughan 1876 New Zealand
« on: Tuesday 21 February 17 03:33 GMT (UK) »
Could anyone help me with any information about the marriage of Benjamin Welton and Ann Vaughan which took place in New Zealand in 1876. I am trying to find out what happened to Ann, I have no information regarding her at all. As for Benjamin he came back to Australia and married Mary Anne Haddon in 1885 and died in 1886. Benjamin had several run ins with the Police and served time in gaol. I am a direct descendant of Benjamin and Mary Anne Haddon. I would be most grateful for any information. Thank You.
Regards,
Rosjan.

Hi sue 21757
Thanks for that but unfortunately the Ann Welton father Louis mother Mary died Sydney 1882 was not the wife of Benjamin. It is possible that she was still alive in New Zealand when he married Mary Anne Haddon. In 1879 when fronting Hay Court (New South Wales) he stated his wife was in New Zealand and he didn't know if she was dead or alive. He was in court being tried for abduction.
Regards,
Rosjan.

Hi Wivenhoe,
I don't have the marriage certificate for New Zealand only the index number and parties, it fits the information he gave at the Hay court. The information on his death certificate in 1886 is as follows: died Grenfell 6/10/1886, cause of death fractured skull (quite a long inquest report in local papers). wife Mary Anne Haddon, No mention of previous marriage, the informant on the death certificate was his mother Jane Welton.
Benjamin died on the same day as his daughter was born.
Regards,
Rosjan.

Why are you sure that the Ann Welton who died in Sydney wasn't Benjamin's first wife?

Hi johnf04,
The reason that i'm sure that the Ann Welton that died in Sydney in 1882 is not Benjamin's first wife is that she is the daughter of Louis and Mary Welton who arrived in Sydney in 1848 on the Walmer Castle.

rosjan.
