Wilson's from Derry
« on: Tuesday 21 February 17 20:31 GMT (UK) »
We find ourselves stuck!!! We are looking for our GGGranny's family who left Ireland sometime during the middle to late 1830s. They were already on the tender to board the ship going to America, which would be waiting in Loch Foyle,   when our GGgrandfather asked Katie not to go, but to come back home to Inishowen, Co Donegal with him.

We know that Katie (Catherine) disembarked. Their first child was born in 1841.

We also know that Katie's siblings were Tom, James, Peggy, Majorie and Mary. Katie was said to have a twin called Pat who died as an infant.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

Would you know their years of birth, please?  Do you know what their occupations were?  Had any other family members left for America or Canada?  Would you know their parents' names, please?

 Hello Lisa,
Lovely to hear from you. We have very little additional information - just that Catherine/Katie married Bernard/Bryan McConway and they went on to have 9 children born approx between 1841 - 1862. Our GGrandfather, Thomas was born 1847. There is family hearsay that Bernard was a servant in the Wilson household, but we are unable to verify that as yet. We know that Katie's parents disapproved of the romance, and decided to emigrate in the hope of breaking it up.

We continue to search passenger lists, and also US census. Our struggle is that when the ship sailed there was no further contact between Catherine/Katie and her family. We don't know if they survived the journey, or where they disembarked. We don't know how the family settled, and only really have the male siblings names to go on . We think Katie's sisters could have married.

We are just hoping someone may recognise the group of names and be able to help us piece together some missing details. Maybe they have family hearsay about a missing daughter/sister, and wonder what has happened to her.

Thank you for your interest.
Margaret
