Llanbydder Black Lion owners
« on: Wednesday 22 February 17 00:25 GMT (UK) »
Where can I find the records for who were the innkeepers at this residence for 1851? For years my family were lead to believe that my ancestors ran the Old Black Lion in Aberystwyth but I've since found out this wasn't the case. My ancestors were called John and Theodocia Jones.

Thanks,

Jacqueline

Hi I can see in 1851 a John & Theodocia Jones both 46 b Carmarthenshire running the Black Lion, Llanybyther, Cardiganshire?
John is Miller and Innkeeper.
Census Ref H0107/2423/75/1

EDIT a widowed Theodocia Jones 55 b Llanfynydd is a Publican at the Black Lion Llanybyther in 1861 census.

There is a Hannah Evans 67 Widow occ Inn Keeper at the Black Lion. Llanybyther ( Llan-Y-Byddar) in 1851 Lampeter.
Census Ref HO107/2483/67/32

Hannah aged 55 was also at the Blacklion in 1841 census.

Oh brilliant. I have been looking at lots of the same pub names and thought this was what it said on the census.

Where did you find this info please? I haven't used this site much so am not too sure about the references.

Many thanks,

Jacqueline  :)

Hi all the searches I have carried out have been via FindMyPast who allow an address search, it has taken me some time to locate the Old Black Lion in Aberystwyth, but found it via 1861 census where a Richard Davies and family are at Old Black Lion, 51, Bridge Street, Aberystwyth.

Checking 51 Bridge Street in the 1851 census we have a William Hughes occ Innkeeper 48 and family in Llanbadarn Fawr, Aberystwyth
