Baptism Extract Perhaps
« on: Wednesday 22 February 17 15:37 GMT (UK) »
Came across what I think is an extract of a birth/baptism record. In the middle of the page it says, November 1747 then underneath a list of people, well three on this piece of paper, the first is 1 James of William Alwood ***** by Hannah I cannot make out the word that I have asterisked. If this is a birth, how can I find out more about William and Hannah Alwood. I believe that the son James married in 1773 in Wetheringsett, Suffolk to a Mary Potter.

Any assistance would be most appreciated.

You obviously were able to look at it and decipher it, thank you very much. Would there be anything else that you may be able to look at in order to give me any other information about William and Hannah. All I know is that they lived in Wheeler Street in 1743 and Denmark Street in 1745 as William is recorded in the London Tax Records. As I said any information at all would be most welcome. I even wonder if they were Huguenots with living in Spitalfields, who knows!
Thank you again for the laborer information.

I have now established that William & Hannah Alwood lived in Wheeler Street and then Denmark Street where on the 8 Oct 1747 Hannah gave birth to James Alwood who was baptised at St Georges Church in November 1747. I also know from the Tower Hamlets Parish Records that William Alwood died and was buried in February 1781 at St George in the East. Would anybody be able to tell me what happened to Hannah and when?

It looks like William was buried on 7 Feb 1781, his age was given as 70 and it says W H after the entry which I guess is Workhouse.

That was brilliant, a little more flesh to put on the bone. Oh! I do hope that something of Hannah may be found.
Thank you, much appreciated.
