McKennon
« on: Wednesday 22 February 17 21:47 GMT (UK) »
I am not sure where this post should be but since the majority of my family came from the Fife Area I posted it here.  I am looking for the parents Of Jessie McKennon she was born Aug 9 1894 in Scotland and died Jan 17 1961. Her husband was born in Ohio so she immigrated then married here.  But only her maiden name is listed on the death certificate.  Any help would be appreciated.  Beans

https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk will have her birth, which will show her parents as well.

Do you have any other info. you could post such as children's names which may help with the Scottish naming pattern.

Have you looked for an obituary as these can be fruitful too?

I'm confused with "only her maiden name is listed on the death certificate"
Do you mean her marital surname was not on her DC or that there was no other details regarding where born etc?

Meanwhile, with a definite date & year of birth, have you searched scotlandspleople.gov.uk ?

The year of birth may be out slightly as happens often i.e. +/- 2 yrs either side is advisable.

The Index is now free but you should also allow for several variations with a surname like that...

Ireland:- Cullen, Flannigan (Derry), Donahoe/Donaghue (variants) (Cork), McCrate (Tipperary), Mellon, Tol(l)and (Donegal & Tyrone)

Newcastle-on-Tyne/Durham (Northumberland):- Harrison, Jude, Kemp, Lunn, Mellon, Robson, Stirling

Kettering, Northampton:- MacKinnon

Canada:- Callaghan, Cumming, MacPhee

You should also allow for variations with her forename, Jessie/Janet.

Do family members recall anything of place names even if you can't spell them properly we can help to find them with possibles?

When/where did she marry & to whom?

Do any records give how long she'd been in Ohio?

Do you have any addresses?

Off topic but I have a relative living in Ohio.

I have been unable to locate an obituary.  I only have her husbands Name Fred J. Montgomery.  They had one child Ralph born in 1916.  Her Pennsylvania death certificate Father's name ?? McKennon mother Unknown.  It Dose say place of Birth for Jessie is Scotland but does not narrow it down.  That is pretty much all I have for her.  Thank you for all replies and help.  Beans

It also appears they went back and forth between Pennsylvania and Ohio.  I have been unable to find a marriage for them or any birth record for their son.  One senses has Fred born in Ohio one Has Pennsylvania and Another has Kentucky.  Can't prove which is accurate.  The were in Columbiana Ohio for awhile.   I think that answers all of the question your replies posed.   Beans

Her Pennsylvania death certificate Father's name ?? McKennon mother Unknown.

Does ?? appear on the DC or is it that you're unable to decipher it (illegible)?

Who registered her death?

I have a suspicion they may not have been married?
