Catherine Routledge, Darlington/Stockton, c.1800
« on: Thursday 23 February 17 12:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I'm looking for information on an ancestor of mine named Catherine Routledge. All I know about her is that she married Thomas Charlton on 16 September 1833 at St Cuthberts, Darlington. She later moved to Yorkshire, where she listed herself in the 1851 census as being born in Stockton, Durham, but in the 1861 census as being born in Darlington, Durham. Her ages are given as 35 in the 1841 census, 48 in the 1851 census and 58 in the 1861 census. She died in 1867.

Unfortunately the marriage records I've been able to track down only list witnesses (R.H. Naylor and John Wilson), so we have no clue as to her parents, or indeed where she was even born! Any help much appreciated.

The only Catherine Routledge baptism I can see is

Catherine Rutledge bapt 23 Oct 1796 Auckland St Helen father George

Auckland St Helen is about 10 miles from Darlington. The birth year is way out from the ages given in the Censuses.

By the way, one of the marriage entries I looked at for the marriage stated that Thomas was a widower - don't know if you are aware of that.
