Just clarifying, xkopite  :)

We are certain this Margaret KIRK in Luling, with her census ages making her a good deal younger that someone born c1865, is your Margaret KIRK? Because her address in Luling is known to the family from letters to her sister Jane in England?

Cheers

Hi Ambly,

What do they say...great minds.... ;D ;D  Thinking the same as you... masquerading, also thought perhaps a remarriage until I saw Elizabeth's SSI with father's name Kettlewell.

Have you seen the Quaker records of Baltimore on A**y, dbree?
There's a Richard & Catherine LEEKE who had a son Richard born 1812
U.S., Quaker Meeting Records, 1681-1935

The son Richard, married a Hannah LUPTON  in 1836.
He and Hannah, and their children   - and his mother Catherine, are in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1860

1860: Cincinnati, Hamilton Co, Ohio

Richard LEEKE 47, Collector, b MD
Hannah H? LEEKE 45, b MD
James C LEEKE 21, School Teacher, b MD
William LEEKE 17, b MD
Henry LEEKE 13, b OH
Catherine LEEKE 64, School Teacher, b MD
Rebecca McPHERSON 71, b VA

I wonder if this is him?

Cheers

Hi Ambly,

No, I didn't see that, but it does look promising. If it is him, wonder what made him pick up and
go to the UK. His age is also  ??? ???.....when he married in 1871 he said he was 49, 1871 UK census he's 58 and 1881 he's 59.

Cheers,
DB

Looks good Ambly. :)

In the 1869 Cincinnati Directory Hannah is listed as widow. Richard seems to disappear from
the directories after 1864.

Hmmm, so if Baltimore Richard actually did die by 1869 (in Ohio?) , he can't be the one marrying in Liverpool 1871. Unless, of course - and entirely possible - he didn't die, but instead did a runner and ended up in England by 1871.

Trying to find out what the occupation was of Richard LEEKE snr, the husband of Catherine.

All very intriguing  ;D

Hmm...was having trouble with the RC site....site can't be reached. :P

I'm betting on a runner. On the marriage of Richard Jr., he says Dad is a shipwright.

I think Family Search may have that probate for Richard, but it is browse by... all 320 pages. :P

I think James C LEEKE, born about 1839/40 - the son of Richard & Hannah LEEKE, might have died in 1864 in the US Civil War. Buried in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati.

FINDA GRAVE

Also in that Cemetery,
Catherine LEEKE died 1878 - his grandmother?
William M LEEK b 1843, d 1877 - his brother?
