Hi my Great great Grandfather James McCarthy was born in Northern Ireland in 1842 his father james mcCarthy took James my great great grandfather to live in Newcastle Upon Tyne their names appear in the 1891 Newcastle Upon Tyne Census I am trying to put the pieces together

Hello and welcome to Rootschat.

Do you have a reference for 1891 please? I can't see a James in Newcastle - there are others but we want to follow the right family.
 
Is your year of birth correct for gt gt  grandfather James? If he was born 1842, he would be 50 ish in 1891 which seems a bit old for his father to take him to Newcastle.
