Cullina (sp) near Killorglin
« on: Thursday 23 February 17 18:39 GMT (UK) »
Hi ,

I think I have managed to trace my 3rd great grandfather Bartholomew Sheehan to the above place. This is based on baptism records in 1832.
Does anybody know anything about the Cullina community during this period? was it farming land ?

He was the son of Bartholomew Sheehan & Margaret Sullivan & he left Ireland abt 1850 as he married in Liverpool in 1854 to Catherine Connor.
I'm curious about why he left the area and also other members of his family. Did they all go together or perhaps remained in Cullina.

Thanks

First figure out the correct spelling
Baptism

Than have a look at place names,
click on each civil parish name to see the townland names
https://www.johngrenham.com/places/civil_in_rc.php?churchid=0683&county=&church_name=Killorglin
Than have a look at the map, using the 25" and 62 historic ones to see what the area was like

Yes Sinann, thats the baptism cert for Bartholomew that I found.

I also discovered his siblings based on place name & same parents  & dates. Albeit they may be wrong!!

I need to spend some time googling about this area to help me understand the location etc.
Thanks

I can't see the Cullina spelling any where else but I think it might be Cullinagh by Lough Leane

I did wonder if this could be their marriage

Although the place name spelling is different.

It's a bit further north than the townland of Cullinagh

Difficult, there are townland of Upper and Lower Cullenagh near Beaufort and the school
and than there is Cullinagh further along the Lough.
