« on: Saturday 25 February 17 10:20 GMT (UK) »
Hi All, looking to trace a Rose Ann Reynolds or Ronalds who's was born around the Monaghan county Circa 1843.. Moved to Scotland sometime during the "Great Famine" and married a Robert Stevenson. Any help would be appreciated. Sorry it's not much to go on...

If she moved to Scotland at the time of the "Great Famine" (which started 1845) then she likely came there with parents or other relatives. Have you tried searching for family in Scottish census records?
Does her marriage certificate not list names of both parents? Have you searched for her in all possible census records to see if a more exact place of birth is given than "Co. Monaghan"?

Once you know the parents' names and the family's religion you might be able to get some Irish information.

Hello and welcome  :)

According to 1881 census index, the Stevenson family are living in Gorbals, Glasgow. Ann Ronalds, 72 yrs, born Monaghan is with them. She is Robert's mother in law. That might help in your search.

Thanks for your reply... Yes have got them in Glasgow and Ann Ronalds is a widow from what appears to be a nursing background. When they came to Glasgow I don't know.... Any info on Ann Ronalds in Ireland would be welcome. One website has her coming from Monaghan and another just Ireland.....

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

Exactly what I asked earlier  ;)

If the census says she is a 'nurse' then it's probably unlikely that she did any formal training. Never mind what 'website' says- have you looked at the census records?
