Thomas Gillespie FLEMING
« on: Sunday 26 February 17 07:24 GMT (UK) »

I am trying to find information on Thomas Gillespie FLEMING. His mother died 1890, Dumfriesshire,  Thomas would have been 3 years old - his father died the following year 1891, Castle Douglas, Dumfriesshire.

Would like to know what happened to Thomas between 1891 and 1909 when he married Helen SHERIDAN, in Glasgow.

He was born 17 February 1887 Dumfriesshire - his parents were George Moffat FLEMING & Margaret Gillespie.

The 1901  Thomas above appears to be living with the same family in 1891

Allan Cowan 28
Janet Cowan 26 b Lochmaben, Dumfrieshire
Thos Cowan 2 Months
Jas Gillispie 28 Brother in Law  b Lochmaben, Dumfrieshire
Thos Fleming 4  Nephew b Dumfries, Dumfrieshire
Alex Henderson    35 Boarder

Added - Looking at the 1881 census for George and Margaret Fleming - Margaret was born in 1852 in Lochmaben, Dumfrieshire - so possibly a sister of Jane Cowan and Jas Gillespie above

He did have an Uncle in Glasgow - he was a Tinsmith Journeyman and moved around a lot - 82  Crown Street doesn't ring a bell.

Will see if there is any connection with  Allan Cowan.

ADD

Thomas had a half brother John FLEMING B. 1868 to his father's first marriage  - John died June 1921. Carlisle.
He had a sister Mary FLEMING b.1877 - but no other information on her.

Thank you

I think you are right. Margaret was 38 when she died in 1890 and her age seems to fit in with Janet and Jas Gillespie.

Many thanks

I have no idea what a Apprentice Brass Dresser does but, I wonder if Thomas moved to Glasgow to carry on with this trade and may have lived with his Uncle ( a Tinsmith).

Haven't found anything on Thomas's sister, Mary Fleming b. 1877 she would have been 13/14 years old when her parents died

I think you have found Mary. She was born 22 March 1877 - Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire.

Looks as if you have found -  another FLEMING sibling - Joseph - could be Mary's brother John's son. John died in Carlisle- June 1921. I have that wrong.

I can't thank enough for all your help, it is very much appreciated. It is going to keep me busy for a while.
