Mary Louisa Morley b 1885 Malta

Given Mary L is shown as born 1885 - she may have been a bit of a tight squeeze between Albert & Lily

What intrigues me is where is the proof she was born Malta?    I can't find an 1891/1901 entry for her

No, we haven't been told enough about Mary Louisa to help find her parents.

But Edward and Rachael do not appear to be them!  Unless she was e.g. a twin of Albert who died at birth, but Jules' post suggests she's not a name on an infant gravestone but somebody who one would expect to find in a census.

Albert B Ainsworth BIRTH 23 APR 1884 • Portsmouth, Hampshire
DEATH 20 MAY 1956 • Isle-of-Wight married Mary Louise Morley in July 1909 in Portsmouth.

The 1911 census shows Mary Louise/(a) place of birth Sen Glea, Malta, 1885


I think the only way to prove for certain who her father is to order the birth certificate/marriage certificate.

Her husband appears to be Alfred, rather than Albert - Alfred Burt Ainsworth at his birth reg (Jun qtr 1885 rather than 1884).

Their first child appears to have been well on the way at the time of marriage:

Alfred William George Ainsworth, mmn Morley, Dec qtr 1909 Portsmouth.


I agree you should get her marriage cert.  You mention also her birth cert, but have you found a British overseas or Maltese registration for it?

In terms of her Maltese Birth certificate, it all depends if it exists….I understand registration with British Consul was voluntary. If it was recorded by an  English Chaplain the record my have been archived in London I believe.

Probate for her husband shows him as Albert Burt Ainsworth - otherwise Alfred Burt Ainsworth and probate was granted to Edward Ainsworth - police sergeant and Dudley Harold Cooke Brewery transport foreman

I think you have the wrong year for her birth ? I'm not seeing 1885 in 1911 and this looks like her death registration giving a birthdate of 19 Jun 1892 : Mary Louisa Ainsworth b 19 Jun 1892 d Dec 1970 Isle of Wight 6b 2403.

Without a marriage certificate to identify Mary Louise's father this would be clutching at straws but there is a family on the 1911 census in Portsmouth which may be of interest . I can't give the details because of copyright but suggest a search for Morley keyword Malta and then look at the family in Portsmouth .
