Servants named in a Will
« on: Tuesday 28 February 17 00:04 GMT (UK) »
I've just been looking through the Will of my ancestor's brother Nicholas Ladd who died in Elham, Kent in 1558/9. In it he lists 7 servants as well as "everyone of my maid servants". Nicholas was a yeoman but I found it interesting that he lists 7 servants and wondered what that said about his social status. Almost all the members of the Ladd family seem to have left wills including the women and several mention at least two servants. The other interesting thing is that all the wills were witnessed by at least 5 people, and in one case 6 people.

Who are the servants Matt?

Hi

I don't think they are named but when I get a moment later in the week I will double check and see if there are any names.
