The immigration list is as follows
Jessup Weeding age 45 Merchant arrived New York 30 December 1846, ship named Toronto.
no image on this one.

The passenger list image can be seen here - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:27GK-R38

The US naturalization records from that time frame don't tend to have much personal detail.  I can see the Declaration of Intention for Nathaniel Page Weeding from 1856, and it doesn't list his place of birth or parents.  John Gibbs, Jr. was the witness who swore Nathaniel had been in the US for at least 5 years and in New York for at least 1 year.

In The story of the volunteer fire department of the city of New York, Nathaniel P. Weeding is in a list of being a member of the Association of Exempt Firemen as of the spring of 1882.  After his name, it says Hose 2, October 16, 1866.

He's mentioned as a painter in a list related to firefighters here - http://www.rootschat.com/links/01jm0/

Another reference to him as a painter - http://www.artprice.com/artist/199121/nathaniel-weeding/biography

Nathaniel's burial is listed here - https://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=54448171&ref=acom

A death record with his name mistranscribed as Mathaniel is here - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FDB1-DT5

On www.fultonhistory.com, if you do an exact phrase search for "Jesup weeding", there is an article apparently from 1841 in the New York Herald about the divorce case of Sarah Ann Weeding vs. Jesup Weeding.  Apparently, they were separated since 1838 and there was adultery involved.

Well this is all great!

Jesup was definitely a miller whilst in Suffolk, but traces of him here (Walton, nr Trimley) disappear after 1823 (he seems to have gone bust in 1825).

My interest is mainly in the milling aspect of his life.  However, the USA connection was really useful as it connects the Weedings (who had a mill in Walton between 1821 & 1823 and the Pages who also had a mill in Walton but between 1815 and 1821, and again in 1826 and 1837!

Clearly Nathaniel suggests that they were connected by marriage and the mill was almost certainly the same one.  He too was a Walton miller in 1827.

The divorce case may related to Jesup marrying Anne Burton of Bawdsey in 1838 (perhaps it was a case of bigamy?)

BTW there must have been a Nathanial P Weeding father and son combo, as one married in 1822 and the other was an exempt fireman in 1882.  Either that or he was a tough old Suffolk boy, fighting fire at about 80 years of age!

Sorry amondg,

You already noted the second , Brooklyn born NPW (the fireman), so my Walton NPW must be his father or grandfather?
