Robert Watson were was he a ship steward about?
« on: Tuesday 28 February 17 12:14 GMT (UK) »

Hi,
My ancestor Robert Watson was born in 1870 in Falkirk his mother died in 1875 his father in 1880

he us on the 1881 census in an industrial school in Inverness.

He married in 1890 and on his marriage cert. it says he is a ship steward .

Trying to find out which ships he was on as later in life he is living in Edinburgh and working as an engineer.

Thanks

No Central index of Merchant Seamen was kept between 1857 and 1913. The records for the period of the first world war, have been destroyed. The only thing we have to go on for these years are crew agreements. Unless you have the name of a ship it will be difficult to trace details of his seagoing career.
Have you looked in the 1891 census. He may have been on board a ship docked in a UK port on census night.

 Hi seaweed,

Thank you very much for this information.

No I haven't found Robert on 1901 census he married in Edinburgh in 1900 and this was on his marriage cert .
I have him on 1911 census by that time he was still in Edinburgh and worked in a foundry.
