PUBLICAN JAMES COLLISHAW 1815
« on: Tuesday 28 February 17 14:06 GMT (UK) »
Good Afternoon

Am looking into my mothers side and notice a lot of publicans in the 1800s

The family seemed to be landlords of the Plough & Sickle in Broad Street on various trade directories from 1818-1881

father James b1765
son John Hand b1789 died 1865
grandson Henry b1823 died 1886

James was also landlord of The Plough in Peck Lane in the Nottingham Directory in 1815. Is there any images of this pub? Peck Lane looks like just an Alley Way now between new shops

Is there any record of James being a landlord before 1815

Thanks

Kevin

The FHS disc doesn't note the father's occupation but there are penty more children to James Collishaw/Cowlishaw and wife baptised at St Mary, are these yours?

   1785 06 06      Richard
   1786 12 28      James
   1789 06 27      John
   1792 11 06      Ann
   1795 01 11      Mary
   1796 11 15      William
   1799 08 11      Joseph
   1802 02 01      Sarah
   1803 12 25      William

These would fit with this marriage at St Mary:

1784 11 29   James   COLLISHAW   Ann   CLARKE

Then there are these burials at St Nicholas:

1785 07 14   Richard   COLLISHAW   [age not given]      Son of James
1803 01 02   Sarah   COLLISHAW      Dau of James
1811 03 02   Ann   COLLISHAW         Dau of James
1836 01 22   William   COLLISHAW   age 32   Brand Street   Nottm.St.Nicholas

Maybe James's widow?
1843 02 12   Ann   COLLISHAW   76   Broad Street   Nottm. St.Nicholas      NOTTINGHAM St Nicholas

There were also 3 young Collishaw children from Broad Street who were buried in 1819 (I suspect James's grandchildren by various of his sons) as well as the burial for James mentioned above.
