James Harrold Hinckley
« on: Tuesday 28 February 17 17:30 GMT (UK) »
I am returning to Rootschat after a number of years so please be patient with me if I am a bit rusty!

I have heard that a direct ancestor of mine,James Harrold (1780-1846), a needle maker of Hinckley was  a bit of a character.

If anybody has any information about him or even suggestions of  possible areas to research I would be extremely grateful.

Thank  you
Jean Sandra

In what way?  Criminal or other?  Where did the info come from as it is a very long time ago

Apparently he was a musician, poet and a bit of a median according to a nostalgic article in a Hinckley newspaper.
He wrote a poem about visiting a large number of Hinckley pubs in 1840. As, I said, quite a character.

There's a good write up for him in Coventry Herald dated 8th May 1846 stating not only was he a good musician and poet, he was a comedian too. At every village wake or feast he was sure to make an appearance with his violin. :)

Thank you so much.
How amazing that the information is there about someone who was born over 200 years ago.
Awesome!
