Where was he at school

Ernest Thomas Hurrell, born 1913 Bury St. Edmunds, lived with his grandparents William and Eliza Hurrell, possibly in Honington or Sapiston.  I would like to find out where he went to school and any info about his working life and war duties.  I know he was based in the army in London during the war.  He was my paternal grandfather.  I also know he was put through school by his father (name Unknown). He would never identify him.   He was illigitimage.

Ernest Thomas Hurrell joined the Royal Artillery in 1940 (Service No 1101624) He then transferred to the Pioneer Corps on 5 March 1942.
