Annie Orridge Instution
« on: Tuesday 28 February 17 18:20 GMT (UK) »
My Great aunt, Annie Isobel Orridge, 1908 - 1995, was in and out of institutions most of her life.  I am not certain but might have died in a Leicester  institution where she had been for many years.  Her life is abit of a mystery and did not marry.  Any advice please.  She was living in Scalford, Leicestershire with her parents Thomas and Caroline Orridge in 1911.

Regards
Julie

We aren't allowed to do full 1939 look-ups.

But I used the free search on the 1939 register, and searched just the christian name Annie, surname O* and the exact date of birth given on the death registration (4th November 1908).

This produces an Annie Orrigde (note spelling on transcription) living in Melton Mowbray RD, Leicestershire.

Thankyou all for help.

I wasn't aware of the 1939 register.
I don't think Annie was at the Towers but seem to remember visiting her, possibly Leicester.  I'm sure the building has since been demolished.  Would there be records for her stays at these institutions ?

Hi Julie,

Annie Orridge, I believe is my Great Grandmother. Her only son Peter was my Grandfather. Our family didn't even know of her as on Peter's certificate it was recorded as being an Esther Orridge(? would have to confirm but it was definitely not Annie) as his mother. Digging around on myancestry.com has made us aware that it was Annie who was the mother. We would love to find out who Peter's father was and would love to know more about Annie his mother and the secrecy surrounding the whole thing. We don't have much information, but glad to have connected :)

Kind Regards,
Bridget
