« on: Wednesday 01 March 17 00:07 GMT (UK) »
Looking for George Scholes on 1861 and 1871Census . I think he was licencee Peartree Inn/Botanical Tavern High St East until 1874.He may have also owned Bulls Head Inn at Charlesworth.
He was owner of a famous dog "Glory Scholes".

With thanks

Thank you very much.
I don't suppose there was any sign of a Charles Wyatt last found Blackshaw Farm Glossop 1851?

By the time of the 1876 PO Directory, George Scholes had moved to the Bull's Head at Charlesworth but he wasn't listed in Morris & Co's Commercial Directory & Gazetteer of Ashton-Under-Lyne & District 1878.

Rex, the 1851 census for Blackshaw lists:
Household   Role   Gender   Age   Birthplace
Joseph Wyatt   Head   M   63   Glossop, Derbyshire
Ellen Wyatt   Wife   F   53   Ludworth, Derbyshire
Dorathy Wyatt   Daughter   F   21   Blackshaw, Derbyshire
Mary Ann Wyatt   Daughter   F   15   Blackshaw, Derbyshire
Ellen Wyatt   Daughter   F   13   Blackshaw, Derbyshire
Joseph Wyatt   Son   M   8   Blackshaw, Derbyshire
Thomas Wyatt   Son   M   6   Blackshaw, Derbyshire
Elizabeth Wyatt   Grand Daughter   F   2   Blackshaw, Derbyshire
Henry Wyatt   Grand Son   M   1   Blackshaw, Derbyshire

No sign of Cephas either, though he was there in 1861. Maybe the two brothers were staying elsewhere in 1851.

Were you aware that you can now access census records via Family Search - https://familysearch.org/search? I've found several records since re-starting research a few weeks ago.

Great to hear from you Graham and thank you.
My Wyatts still work in progress but have made several discoveries.

Brothers Joseph and Thomas settled Australia.
Recently discovered another brother John arrived Maryborough Queensland in 1863 on same ship as Joseph and his bride.1851 Census has him transcribed as Wiatt a lodger with Samuel Nall at Whitfield.
Charles not found beyond 1841 other than 1859 newspaper report regarding funeral of "Glory Scholes" a dog owned by George Scholes.Speculation but unproven Charles went to sea.

Cephas not accounted for 1851 but back home at Blackshaw 1861.
He married Jane Boome Banks 1865 Stockport.

I will examine your suggestion that some of the brothers were elsewhere.
Certainly a challenge.

With thanks

Rex

Good luck Rex.

I knew Cephas was around for some years. I was transcribing some more trade directories recently (http://www.gjh.me.uk/resource.htm) and his name was in several.

Thanks Graham
Cephas died a widower 1905 Glossop Workhouse. There is a substantial monument Glossop Cemetery.
His son Joe Rivers Wyatt and daughter Ellen/Helen ( Goldthorpe) both migrated to Canada soon after. Descendants Alberta Canada.
