There are two deaths for Martha Jarvis in Mkt Harborough in 1844 - presumably mother and daughter (don't know which is which!). That leaves John Jarvis free to marry Barbara (?) Grocock at the end of the following year.

Pg. 153, No. 1220
Martha Jarvifs, Market Harborough, Octr 29 1844 aged 5 years

I've been in touch with Linda at the Desborough site several times in the past and her information is usually reliable.

I've also been in touch with Buckinghamshire FHS in the past (maternal side - although they 'emigrated' from Grandborough to Market Harborough in the mid 19th c) so will try another contact to confirm the Thomas Jarvis link. I noticed John declared his father to be a soldier. That could have taken him into the Napoleonic era.
