1/7th Battalion, The Queen's Royal Regiment (West Surrey)
« on: Wednesday 01 March 17 19:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

Whilst researching one part of my tree I stumbled upon the following regarding a different part of my tree. Ain't it always the way!! ;D

Charles Henry Hussey (1906-1943) died in Italy on 15th Oct 1943 & is buried in Naples he died whilst serving in the above regiment, his number being 6105871.

His CWGC entry is here: http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/2239621/HUSSEY,%20CHARLES%20HENRY

His entry in the Royal West Surrey enlistment registers (within the Surrey Regimental Rolls) gives a date of 8-1-42, presumably his enlistment? It also shows that he died of wounds.

Are there regimental diaries available for the Battalion/Regiment? If so where?

Also is there a regimental history for the battalion similar to the WW1 histories, but obviously for WW2 in this instance?

Charles Henry isn't a direct relative, he is a not too distant one, but it makes getting his service records a bit tricky!

I am keen however to find out what I can of his battalion between 8th Jan 1942 & 15th Oct 1943. I believe that before they were in Italy they were in North Africa, am I right?

Lastly according to CWGC grave records he was originally buried at Grazzanise Military Cemetery before being reburied on the 27th October 1944 at Naples Military Cemetery. This may or may not help in placing the regiment/battalion at the time of his death.

Any/all help will be much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards

David

The original war diary for the regiment like all the WW2 units is at the National Archives in London.
