Burial or Monumential information Santa Clara, California
« on: Thursday 02 March 17 00:14 GMT (UK) »
Hello everybody after a 25 year mystery, I think I've solved a death of my great great grandmother. Source gleamed from Ancestry, com.
I would just like to see if there is any more info on them for the following

Martha Ward died Almaden, Santa Clara in Aug 1874 and a daughter followed a month later named Martha Maria Ward in the same area. It stated that Martha was 27 years old and from England.
I'm not sure where they are buried. Husband was James Ward, but I have no other details, don't no what ship or dates they came out on, other than it was after the English 1871 census.
Next date I have is that James Ward remarried in New Zealand and stated he was a widower in 1875.
James occupation was a miner.
Thanks you
Murray

Hi Murray,
In the records, Martha Ward died of childbirth in Almaden. Almaden is a small part of the city of San Jose, California in Santa Clara County.

Where were they living in 1871, please (looking for James' details, to try to find him after that time).

Sorry, usually all replies come back to my email but alas I somehow missed this. I’m not actually sure. Martha Ward I found living in Calstock, Cornwall in the 1871 Census. Had a daughter born 1869 named Beatrice. Next event was they had a son (William John Ward) born we think at New York or SAN Francisco or California in 1872. I understand James left Cornwall around 1869 and went possible via Ontario as his parents and some siblings went to Algoma to Bruce Mines. In 1875 James came to NZ listed as a widow.
Thank you
Murray
