On the face of it, it looks like his father was Elijah Page, but for some reason he used the surname Grain.

This might be him in 1891 which might help

In 1901 he is described as a "nephew"

Getting his birth cert should make it all clear.

I would imagine he is an illegit child of one of Isaac and Martha's daughters, with father named as Elijah Page, obvious Elijah acknowledged him.  But that is just an "assumption"

On the GRO indexes, there's no mother's maiden name shown for Dennis's birth, so I think lizdb is likely to be right when she speculates that Dennis is the illegitimate son of one of Isaac and Martha's daughters.  Can't find a baptism for Dennis in Great Glen, so it looks like the birth certificate is the only way ....

Isaac & Martha had a daughter Ann Harriet who was born in 1866. She died and was buried 20 July 1887 in Great Glen - a candidate for Dennis Page Grain's mother ?

But getting the cert will tell you who his parents were!  If you find it out by other means, then surely you wont need the cert. But if you are going to get it anyway after youve found out the parents, then why not get it now to tell you the parents.  As we have said, I dont think you will find them any other way anyway.
