My father Ken Hodgson and grandparents Stanley and Ethel c1913/14
« on: Thursday 02 March 17 15:25 GMT (UK) »
Please could someone look at restoring this photo I have of my father as a baby with his parents. He was born in 1912 so this was taken around that time.

Thanks

I've tweaked it a little but the image is low resolution. To give us a fighting chance....if you have the original, maybe you could scan it at 300dpi minimum. You could then re post it, but you will have to rename the file to upload it.

Its a charming pic, it would be a shame not to.

Thank you. It looks much better. I scanned it at 300dpi. Should I do anything else?

@Handypandy,
Excuse my comments here, but I think we need to clarify what appears in Image Properties. The Resolution (ppi) only applies to the Print size, immediately above. It says, in effect, that if you print an image of 866 x 605 pixels at 72 ppi you will have a print which is 305.51 x 213.43 mm. This is larger than A4. It is probable that the original is smaller than that and very few people have scanners larger than A4.

What is important is that the image is as close as possible to the 500KB limit. There is some scope for variation - more pixels with a lower .jpeg quality, or less pixels and higher quality. You can have many more pixels within the 500KB limit by scanning in greyscale (8 bits per pixel, as against 24 bits per pixel in RGB). There are advantages and disadvantages to all these variations.

I hope these comments are of help.

The original photo is small 3" x 2".  I looked at the information by PrueM and scanned as recommended.

Thanks for your help
