Fowles and Fisher m Henbury 27 Mar 1749
« on: Friday 03 March 17 21:24 GMT (UK) »
I'd really appreciate it if someone would look up the original record of this marriage which is set out on Family Search as:

Name    William FOWLES
Spouse's Name    Jane FISHER
Event Date    27 Mar 1749
Event Place    Henbury, Gloucester, England

and let me know if this is accurate and if there are any more details on the original.

My reason for asking is that I have had difficulty trying to find the marriage of William FOWLER of Charfield - and am wondering whether the above is a spelling mistake - transcribed "FOWLES" when it should be "FOWLER".  If this is a contender it would be interesting because his granddaughter married a FISHER from Olveston (Aust) in 1804.  (The same surnames seem to keep cropping up in my family tree.)

I don't know William FOWLER's wife's first name.  She is not included on their children's bapt. records though they are all described as children of William FOWLER:
Ann Fowler bapt. 09 Feb 1750
                       bur. 10 Jul 1750 - Charfield
William Fowler bapt. 18 Mar 1756 - Charfield
Martha Fowler bur. 07 Jan 1764 - Charfield
John Fowler bapt 02 Sep 1764 - Charfield

I can't find a bapt. record for Jane FISHER in Henbury so don't know whether she was a widow when she married William or where she was from originally.

I can't find a will either to help either!  Unlike the (above) William FOWLER (son) bapt 1764 Charfield; died 1828 - who was much more obliging!!

Any ideas would be appreciated.  Many thanks

Thank you Capetown - I appreciate all your work on my queries.

The Samuel Fisher and Mary Fowler marriage was what I was referring to.  She was the William Fowler(- that I am trying to find out about-)'s granddaughter as I said.

I would still like to find out whether there is any chance that the originial - the parish register - could be "William Fowler".  If so, it would not be the first time that an error has been made in transcribing.

Again - many thanks
