Thank you all for your kind help. Amazing what information can come to light.

It's something of a mystery why Sidney William Slaughter, who died in 1956 at 22 Sudeley Road, came to be at Brighton. A baker & lifetime bachelor, he spent the first 60 years of his life in lodgings in the Guildford area. Probably Mabel Munns was his landlady and moved to Hove after she married Charles Gurney.

Perhaps he went to Brighton for the sea air, working with flour all day every day could well have resulted in some sort of lung problem.

I can't see him on Guildford electoral registers after 1945 have you evidence of where he lived after that time.  Guildford registers for that area are online until at least the mid 1950's

It could be that Sidney goes to Brighton after WW2. Without the Electoral Registers I've no evidence, but I live some distance away, hence this request for a lookup. The 1956 register is available to view at The Keep, I believe.

It may be an idea to give some idea of your location in your profile then we will not suggest that you visit places that are too far away  ;D

I made a quick visit to Hove Library today where they have Kelly's directories on fiche.

For 22 Sudeley Street, there is only Geo. Pettit listed both in 1956 and 1958.

Edited to add: I checked again, the above is correct.  I got confused as you mentioned Sudeley Road but that doesn't exist so it will be the Street we're concerned with.

As Mabel was a priest's mother, could she have been working with him - for example registering the death of a parishioner when he perhaps was present at the death?

Thank you, JohninSussex. The mystery deepens still further & yet another brick wall. Still, without brick walls we'd have nothing to bang our heads on, would we?
