James Parson Major
« on: Friday 03 March 17 23:26 GMT (UK) »
I am new to genealogy and I am looking for information for James Parsons Major born in Fromme, Somerset, England on May 13, 1818. He came to America approx. 1830.   I am interested in information on who his parents were and any siblings.  He was an engraver.  I believe in first came to New York and then moved to New Jersey.  I appreciate any help.

Thank you for the information.  Can anyone help me with birth dates for Richard and Sarah Major, parents of James P. Major?

Several problems in trying to establish parentage of Richard and Sarah

You don't know for certain that the marriage I posted is the correct one

Even if it is - Morgan is a common Welsh (and English) surname and without knowing when and where Sarah was born it would be impossible to the find the correct information

Same problem with Richard - no details of when or where he was born

Re: James. In your opening post you say that

He came to America approx. 1830.

The obit above confirms he came with his parents so if you find their deaths you may get additional info

Looks like the whole family went to New York.  Ancestry shows a death of a Richard Major in 1844 but no age shown - Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings Co., New York.   Other members of the family buried there too.

Scopes (One-Name Study - Worldwide)
Suffolk - Grist, Knights, Bullenthorpe, Watcham
Scotland - Spence, Horne, Cowan, Moffat
London -  Monk

Death announcements in New York papers record that a Richard Major died 21 April 1844 aged 57 years and 2 months.

EDIT this cannot be the one buried at Green-Wood on 9 September !
