Morin Family - Quebec & Hougton, Michigan
« on: Saturday 04 March 17 05:19 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for some help in bridging a gap in my family tree.

Marie Morin was born in September 1850.  Census records from later in her life show her birthplace is New York State.  In 1871, in Houghton, Michigan, she married Joseph Baptiste Varin (1840-1931).  She and Joseph moved to Nebraska, USA, where she lived out her life.

Based on DNA matching, I now know that Marie was somehow closely related to Charles Morin (1788-1866) and Marie-Victore Guenette (1791-1877) of Bellechasse, Quebec.  Several of Charles' descendants (Silas Morin, Joseph Napoleon Morin) also ended up in Houghton or nearby parts of Michigan, just across Lake Superior from Canada.  I'm looking for the link that explains how they are related to Marie.

Any leads would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Are S and J N the children of Charles? Do you have birth dates for them?

Edited to add: are S and J N still alive? If so, their names should be removed or reduced to initals as RootsChat has a 'no living people' policy to protect the privacy of same.

A follow-up: mystery solved.

I was able to determine Mary's parents and connect her to Morin ancestors in Quebec.

It turns out she is not closely related to Charles Morin (1788-1866), but the link I was trying to make, to a different Charles Morin (father of Silas and Joseph Napoleon) in Michigan, turns out to be solid - Charles (born as Caļus) and Mary were siblings.
