Shortland Cemetery, Thames
« on: Sunday 05 March 17 05:36 GMT (UK) »
I've been helping adding names to Shortland Cemetery in Thames to findagrave, along incredible amount of help from another researcher. We have only added basic information and some may need correcting. Also putting headstones and notices etc if we have them.

If anyone has family buried in this cemetery and can add some info it would be much appreciated. You can take over the care of the memorial also if you want.
The link to the site is https://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&GRid=173443379&CRid=2298534&

Many thanks, every little bit helps. We thought it would be great to help commemorate Thames' 150th a goldfield this year to find out more about the early settlers.
Bye
Althea

Hi
I see you have the grave of Eliza Wright, died 29th June 1873.
I don't know if it states on the grave, but she was the wife of 'Mr W. C. Wright'. (William Charles).

He was a 'licensed goldfields and mining surveyor' in Thames from about 1869 to 1878 when he moved to Timaru to work for the Government Survey Office. Prior to moving to Thames, he had been a surveyor on the Queenstown and Arrowtown goldfields. And before that in Ballarat. Originally from England, although I haven't been able to find out much about Eliza. I don't think they were married before he came out here.

I have LOADS of information about him, including his genealogy, and the work he did in Queenstown, Thames, Timaru and Nelson.
He is buried in Nelson, where he moved to after Timuaru.
On his death registration, it gives her as Eliza Alan. 'Date and place of marriage unknown'.

Long story about why I have all his information! My son lives in Queenstown, and it all started with a old map of the goldfields there................

Let me know if you want any more information.  :D
