Parish register - McComiskey
« on: Sunday 05 March 17 06:40 GMT (UK) »
I am searching for records of an ancestor who lived in Downpatrick. Hugh and Jane McComiskey  (Hugh) 1764 - 1839 and (Jane) 1771 - 1839.

I know the family has a mausoleum at St Margaret's. I have tried searching for them on many websites, but to no avail. I wonder if there would be parish records from their wedding so I can get the names of their fathers? At present I do not have a maiden name for Jane.
I have most information of the generations under them, but I really want to get more information on them, their siblings and their parents.

Does anyone live nearby the area that can access the records to do a look up for me and let me know if the information I am looking for is there?
Any information or help would be much appreciated! :D

A marriage record for that date (if church records survive) will probably give little information besides date, bride & groom

For reference, here are details (and photos) of vault which son Robert erected c1850-

Just in case you haven't seen this site there are mentions of the family-

From the same site (under Churches) are details of St. Margaret's, its records, etc. (scroll down page a bit)- PRONI & Linenhall Linrary (both Belfast) look to have records-

Thanks Aghadowey,
That is fantastic information! I haven't seen any of that before. The mausoleum record is the most amazing one, as I haven't seen it. The list of the McComiskey's is great, as I do know one was a tanner and a butcher.

Regarding the church page, it has a list of records available linked to it. I am wondering if those records are available online or only physically in the library?
Thank you  :D

The link I posted already explains what is available-
Records available are baptisms 1733- 1854, marriages 1700- 1736 & 1740- 1874, burials 1719-1867 at PRONI MIC /1/39; Linenhall Library, Belfast has a register of deaths (1693-1862) and marriages (1727-1862) of persons in Downpatrick and neighbourhood -personal visits only ; LDS film #0823636 was baptisms 1733-1854, marriages 1700-1875 & burials 1719- 1867; UHF ( http://www.ancestryireland.com/ ) has baptisms 1749-1857 & burials 1752-1785, 1795 -1829, 1837-1871; http://www.rootsireland.ie have baptisms 1749 -1857 & burials 1752-1785;1795-1829; 1837-1871;

Contact your local LDS Library to see if they have the film in stock (doubtful) or can order it for you to view there (more likely)
The 2 sites listed are pay ones- see sites for details
To view the microfilmed records at PRONI you would either need to go in person or have a researcher do so on your behalf.
