James William Gilligan
« on: Sunday 05 March 17 19:42 GMT (UK) »
James was born in Bromley Kent circa 1829/1830. Looking for a Baptism please or anything. Most likely Catholic. Not showing up in 1841 and in 1851 was living alone in Islington. By 1861 onwards had his own Family. Thin, I know  ;D

Oh Cr*p. I even went looking for Churchs in Bromley. Thank you for finding him, picking up on my stuff up and connecting this sorry saga of me going about the whole process backwards.
Does this mean he had left home by aged 12 or could Catherine Thomas be his twice widowed Mother?
I suppose there are a lot of Gilligan households in Brompton? Any missing a 12 year old?
OK. I am looking for a baptism in Brompton, assuming he was actually born in Brompton.

it could well be that James is a soldier's  son going off the area.

That thought had occured to me once I googled Bromptom and found it was surrounded by military. There a very few Gilligans in the Medway bdm records which I assume Brompton and Chatham come under. Am off into town for shopping today so can look at that 1841 listing then. Am hoping that Catherine is just an employer as at age 50 it strains the immagination that people knew their 4th cousins. An 1829/30 birth with a Father born circa 1810 would fit an older brother to my Michael Giligan who was born circa 1819. Written to the FHS for that area enquiring as to if and when they have a CD for St Michaels Catholic. I can afford 5 pounds and postage but not an open ended 11 pounds for research. Mind you that is one of the cheapest research offers I have ever seen. Especially as there currency is gurggleing with Brexit.
Does any one know about military records and give me some hints as to who to write to please.
Have been ordered out to clean the car prior to town. Metal roads  :(.
