I can't really help at all, but I found your post while I was looking for more information about my father's wartime experiences.
I also have a copy of his army number, this from Find My Past:
Lawrence James Cottrell:
I think it indicates that he joined with S.Y S/L Regiment (was this Sussex Yeomanry Searchlight?)
and transferred to the RAOC on 6th May 1942. It may also indicate on the RHS column that he went on sick leave - I know he was in hospital in London around 1942 because that was where he met my Mum.
Any comments or advice for further research would be appreciated.

The record is from 1940.  The regiment is 87 Searchlight Regiment.  The S/L in the right hand column indicates Searchlight not sick leave.
There are war diaries at the National Archives for 1941 and 1942 (there may be more):

To follow his servce though you will need to apply for his record which is still with the MOD

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.
